In my opinion, Google Ads isn't necessarily harder it's just different. A few years ago it required more manual work and constant tweaking, which was time-consuming but very transparent. Now it's more automated, which makes setup easier but gives you less visibility and control over exact decisions. For beginners, it can actually feel simpler, but for experienced advertisers it feels less predictable. So it's not harder overall, just more dependent on trusting the system while guiding it with good inputs.
 
Google Ads feels harder now for many people because there are more automated features, more competition, and more settings to understand. Years ago, campaigns could sometimes perform decently with simple keyword targeting and manual bidding. Now advertisers often need stronger tracking, better landing pages, and cleaner account structure to stay profitable.
 
Many new businesses simply cannot survive the early learning period anymore. Before, you could start with five dollars a day and slowly see what works. Now, the automated system needs so much data to learn that small budgets get swallowed up before the account even finds any buying customers.

Maybe the issue is not the tool itself but where we send the traffic. Since we cannot control the search phrases tightly anymore, the website page where visitors land must do all the heavy lifting. If that page is not extremely clear, the money disappears into thin air.
 
Google Ads has shifted a lot over the years. Where advertisers once had full control over keywords and bidding, automation now handles most decisions. This can make things simpler, but also less transparent. Some people like the convenience, while others feel they've lost control, especially when working with smaller budgets and trying to understand performance changes.
 
Yes, many marketers feel Google Ads is harder to manage now than it was a few years ago. Google has introduced more automation, smart bidding, and AI-driven features, which can be helpful but also make it harder to see exactly why a campaign is performing a certain way. There are more settings and options to understand, so beginners often need more time to learn the platform properly.
 
We should also talk about how tracking laws changed things. With all the new privacy rules online, the platform simply does not see every sale that happens. The system is probably working fine, but the dashboard cannot prove it because it lacks the data to show us truth.
 
It is actually much simpler for beginners who do not want to learn the deep technical settings. You just give the system some pictures, text, and money, then it does the rest. For a busy business owner who has no time, this shift is better than old methods.
 
The big issue is that we now spend all our time building pictures and writing headlines instead of adjusting bids. The work shifted from math to creative writing. If you are good at making videos and text, you will find the platform much friendlier than it was before.
