Ask Why does a client agree on a price and then try to renegotiate after receiving the work?

This is something that catches many freelancers off guard. You agree on a number before the project starts, do the work as discussed, deliver it on time, and then the client comes back saying the price feels too high or that they expected more for what they paid. Nothing about the scope changed, and the agreement was clear. Yet somehow they feel the price is now up for discussion again. Do you think this happens because the client was never fully comfortable with the price, or is it a deliberate move to pay less once the work is already done?
