Ask Why do some clients expect to own the ideas and thinking you brought to the project not just the final work?

There is a real difference between paying for a finished product and claiming ownership of all the thinking that led to it. Some clients assume everything, including research, strategy, and ideas that were discussed but never used, belongs to them once payment is made. That is not how most professional work operates, and many freelancers bring their own thinking to every project. Where do you draw the line when it comes to what a client can actually claim as theirs?
