Sometimes I see job posts that are not clear, and it makes it hard to know what the client really wants. In freelancing, this can waste time if you guess wrong and send the wrong message. I feel it is better to first understand their need before offering any service. A good first message should show interest and also ask the right questions to get clarity. How do you usually start a conversation in this kind of situation without sounding confused or unprepared?
