Delays happen to almost every freelancer at some point, and how you handle them can matter more than the delay itself. Some clients take it well when you are upfront and give them enough notice. Others get upset no matter what you say or how early you tell them. A lot seems to depend on how you word it and whether you offer a new deadline right away. How do you usually handle this with your clients?

Tell the client about the delay as soon as you know it Explain the reason honestly but keep it brief and professional. Show that you take responsibility then give a new realistic deadline and what you are doing to prevent it next time Offering a small update or progress proof helps rebuild confidence and shows you still care about their project.
