Late payment is one of those issues that almost every freelancer faces at some point, and it puts you in an uncomfortable position. You need the money, but you also do not want to come across as aggressive or desperate, especially if the client has been good to work with otherwise. Sending a polite follow-up early is usually better than waiting and hoping. Some freelancers build late payment fees into their contracts so that the expectation is set from the beginning. What approach has worked best for you when chasing a late payment from a client?
