A friend of mine complained that he has a YouTube channel he's running. Though the traffic was not much, it was going in a steady manner. This prompted him to create Google ads. Unfortunately, despite the fact that Google has approved the ads, and it is active, it hasn't recorded any click nor impression. Meanwhile, there is still normal traffic as usual.

What can cause something like this? What can be do to make the Google ads running?

This usually happens when the ad is approved but not actually entering enough auctions to be shown. The most common reasons are low budget or bid, very narrow targeting, or an audience that's too small, so the ad rarely qualifies to appear. It can also be due to ad scheduling, low search or video volume in the selected niche, or the campaign still being in a learning phase. Sometimes billing or account issues can quietly limit delivery too. The best way to fix it is to slightly increase the budget or bid, broaden the targeting, double-check settings, and give it a bit of time once the system finds the right audience, impressions and clicks should start coming in.

A YouTube ad does not start running immediately because it is still under review. Google usually checks ads to make sure they follow their rules and policies. During that time the ad stays inactive. Once the review is complete and everything is approved, the ad can start showing.
