A lot of new freelancers are told to take whatever work they can get at the beginning just to build their portfolio and get some experience. But some people argue that accepting very low rates early on sets a bad standard and makes it harder to charge more later. Both sides have a point, and it really depends on the situation. If you were starting out again today, would you take low paying jobs to build your reputation, or would you hold out for better rates from the beginning?

I will advise you to take low paying job when you're just getting started with freelance for couple of reasons. You have a proof that freelance is actually working and you make money from it and this will boost your confidence. Then the next thing is that it is an opportunity for you to have good review quickly if it happens that you do your best in the service
