A business that only grows through referrals is basically letting its customers control its growth rate. Relying on referrals alone can be dangerous because you cannot control when they happen. Some months might be very quiet if no one recommends your service. Online ads or social media pages help keep things steady. It is better to have many ways for people to find your shop.
 
Relying only on recommendations is like waiting for rain to water your farm. Sometimes the rain does not fall for weeks. Digital marketing is like a pipe that brings water every day. It ensures that the business does not dry up when people stop talking about your great work.
 
I would say relying only on referrals can be risky, even if it feels comfortable at the start. Referrals depend on other people's actions, so if they slow down, the business may suddenly struggle to get new clients without any backup plan.
