Are freelancers more or less productive than traditional employees?

There are some people that have believed that freelancers are more productive more than the traditional freelancers. Most of the times, there are some of them always believe that since the traditional employees are employed full-time, they are more dedicated than the freelancers. The argument may end up being a baseless one. What do you think about this? Do you really believe that there is a need to know the one that is better between the two of them?
