Will I fail if I am only targeting money as freelancers?

I have heard so many things about freelancing. And it is always better to get some things cleared. For instance, I have learnt that it will be difficult for freelancers to make money except they don't focus only making money alone. They do say those that are looking for money in freelancing don't always see money. They don't make money at all. What do you think about this? The essence of going into freelance business is to actually make money not charity. So there is nothing bad if you focus on how you can make more money with your freelance business because you are going to spend your time and effort and you need to get something in return
