Rights transfer agreements are common in freelancing, but some of them go further than most people expect. A client asking you to sign over ownership of work before anything has been created puts all the control in their hands from the very beginning. It also means you cannot use that work later to show what you are capable of, even if it turns out to be some of your best output. Some freelancers sign without reading carefully and only realize the impact later. Have you ever been asked to give up rights to work before a single line or design was even produced?

Some of the clients can be very skeptical when they are dealing with the freelance who happens to be a stranger to them. Since you have nothing to hide you definitely need to sign the contract just know that you understand what is being written or you forward it to your attorney to explain it before you sign.
