Do you know that proofreader will definitely need to read content before the proofread it. I have a friend who is a proofreader and he said that he hate reading self publishing books. I thought maybe because of the errors and formatting that comes with it. I insist unknown the reason why but it was unable to tell me.

The question I want to ask you guys is that Why do freelance proofreaders hate reading self published books? I will be looking forward to your response in the community based in advance.

It's understandable why freelance proofreaders might not be particularly keen on reading self-published books. There are several reasons for this sentiment:

1. **Quality Concerns**: Self-published books often lack the rigorous editing and proofreading processes that traditionally published books go through, which means there may be more errors in terms of grammar, punctuation, spelling, and overall coherence. Some self-published authors may opt to skip the professional editing and proofreading steps altogether, leading to a higher likelihood of mistakes.

2. **Inconsistency**: Self-published books can vary widely in terms of quality. While some self-published books may be polished and well-written, others may be riddled with errors and inconsistencies. This inconsistency can make the proofreading process more challenging and frustrating for professionals.

3. **Formatting Issues**: Self-published books may also have formatting issues that can be distracting for proofreaders. Inconsistent formatting, improper use of fonts, spacing errors, and other layout issues can make proofreading more time-consuming and less enjoyable.

4. **Unpredictable Content**: Self-published books cover a wide range of genres and topics, and some proofreaders may find it difficult to engage with content that doesn't align with their personal interests or expertise. This can make the proofreading process feel more like a chore than a fulfilling task.

5. **Payment Concerns**: Some self-published authors may be working with limited budgets, leading to lower fees for proofreading services. This can be a source of frustration for freelance proofreaders who may feel undervalued for their time and expertise.

While not all self-published books are problematic, the potential for encountering these difficulties can make proofreading them a less appealing prospect for many freelance proofreaders. It's important to approach each project with professionalism and attention to detail, regardless of the origin of the publication.
