I am a freelance logo designer and lately more buyers insist on a live Zoom call while I sketch. I am honest it feels like pressure because they expect 3 concepts in one hour. I am setting boundaries by charging a paid workshop fee and sending an agenda first. I am using the session to ask about audience brand story and competitors so the work is faster later. I am recording it so we both have notes.

The question I want to ask you guys is that Why do freelance logo buyers demand live Zoom design sessions instead of trusting the normal brief and revision process?

It's understandable that you're feeling the pressure when clients demand live Zoom design sessions for logo projects. There could be several reasons why clients prefer this approach over the traditional brief and revision process:

1. **Real-time Collaboration:** Some clients believe that a live design session allows for more efficient communication and collaboration. They may feel that they can provide feedback instantly, which could lead to quicker results.

2. **Need for Instant Gratification:** In today's fast-paced world, some clients might prefer a live session because they want to see immediate progress and be actively involved in the design process.

3. **Desire for Personal Connection:** Clients may feel that by interacting with you directly through a Zoom call, they can establish a personal connection and ensure that you fully understand their brand vision and requirements.

4. **Clarity and Transparency:** Live design sessions can help clarify any uncertainties or miscommunications that might arise during the design process. Clients may feel that discussing design ideas in real-time prevents misunderstandings.

5. **Assurance of Quality:** Some clients may view live Zoom sessions as a way to ensure that they're getting their money's worth and that the designer is putting in the effort required for the project.

Your approach to setting boundaries by charging a workshop fee, sending an agenda beforehand, and focusing on gathering essential information during the session is a wise strategy. It allows you to manage expectations, streamline the design process, and ensure that the client understands the value of your time and expertise.

By recording the sessions for reference, you're also providing a valuable resource for both you and the client to refer back to during the project. This helps maintain transparency and ensures that everyone is on the same page.

While live Zoom sessions can be demanding, they can also be an opportunity to showcase your design skills, build rapport with clients, and produce high-quality work collaboratively. It's essential to strike a balance between meeting client expectations and maintaining a workflow that works best for you as a designer.
