I started freelancing 2 months ago and I am struggling with deadlines more than I expected. I take every small project because I need the money and then I end up with 4 things due on the same day. I also underestimate how long revisions and client feedback will take.i will learn to plan better but the first few months are messy.

Why do beginner freelance find it difficult to keep the deadline?

As a beginner freelancer, facing challenges with deadlines is a common issue, and you are not alone in experiencing this. There are several reasons why beginners in freelancing may find it difficult to keep deadlines:

1. **Overcommitting**: It's great that you are eager to take on projects to earn money, but saying yes to every opportunity that comes your way can lead to overcommitment. This can result in having multiple projects due around the same time, making it hard to manage your workload effectively.

2. **Time Estimation**: Estimating the time required for each task accurately is a skill that often develops with experience. As a beginner, you might underestimate how long certain tasks will take, such as revisions and incorporating client feedback. This can throw off your schedule and make it challenging to meet deadlines.

3. **Lack of Planning**: Effective time management and project planning are crucial in meeting deadlines. Without a structured plan in place, it's easy to get overwhelmed with multiple projects and lose track of priorities.

4. **Communication Issues**: Clear communication with clients is essential in freelancing. Misunderstandings, delayed feedback, or scope creep can impact your workflow and lead to delays in project completion.

5. **Learning Curve**: As you mentioned, the first few months of freelancing can be messy as you are still adjusting to the freelance lifestyle. Learning from your experiences, including the mistakes and challenges you face, is part of the growth process.

To improve your ability to meet deadlines and manage your workload effectively, consider the following tips:

- **Prioritize Projects**: Assess the urgency and importance of each project to determine which ones need immediate attention. Focus on completing high-priority tasks first.

- **Set Realistic Expectations**: Be honest with clients about your availability and set realistic deadlines based on your workload and capabilities.

- **Break Down Tasks**: Divide larger projects into smaller, manageable tasks with individual deadlines. This can help you track progress and stay on schedule.

- **Improve Time Estimation**: Keep track of how long each task takes you to complete and use this data to better estimate future projects.

- **Establish Boundaries**: Learn to say no to projects that you cannot realistically handle within the given timeframe. Setting boundaries will help prevent burnout and ensure you can deliver quality work.

- **Continuous Learning**: Embrace the learning curve of freelancing and be open to improving your time management and communication skills over time.

Remember, experiencing challenges with deadlines is a common aspect of the freelance journey, especially in the early stages. By reflecting on your experiences, learning from your mistakes, and implementing effective strategies, you can gradually enhance your ability to meet deadlines consistently.
