Affiliate products sometimes get discontinued, removed from programs, or go out of stock permanently. When this happens, content promoting those products becomes useless or needs major updates. Some affiliates check their links regularly to catch these changes early. Others only notice when readers complain or earnings drop. Finding replacement products and updating old content takes time, especially for sites with many articles. This maintenance work is often overlooked when starting out. How often should affiliates review their existing content for dead products?

An affiliate marketer should make sure that they are checking out their links. This will make it easier for them to know when the links have been removed or not. If there is no proper checking up on this link, there are tendencies that the links may be removed without notification

Honestly, a good habit is to review your content at least once every 1–3 months, depending on how many products you promote and how fast your niche changes. If you're in a space like tech or seasonal items, you might even need monthly checks, while more stable niches can stretch a bit longer. The key is to not wait until earnings drop set a simple schedule to scan for broken links, out-of-stock items, or discontinued products. It saves you from losing trust with readers and keeps your content earning consistently without huge last-minute fixes.

When a promoted product gets discontinued, it can create confusion for customers who were already interested in it. They may click the ad or link and not find the product anymore, which can reduce trust. For the business, it also means wasted marketing effort since traffic is no longer converting.

From my view, removing a promoted product can affect both sales and customer experience. If people keep seeing an ad for something that is no longer available, it can feel frustrating. It may also push them to look for alternatives from competitors. Businesses usually need to replace discontinued products with similar ones in their campaigns so the marketing effort does not go to waste.
