‎I am on my laptop 10 hours daily and my neck shoulders and wrists are starting to hurt. Sometimes I do have back ache late in the night. I am testing a standing desk external monitor and an ergonomic chair but I am not sure what actually works. We all know that cheap gear breaks fast and good gear costs a lot. I want setups that last years not months to maintain consistence with my freelance.

‎So I would like to ask you guys that Which desk setup actually saved your body long term? Thanks in advance.

I'm sorry to hear about the discomfort you're experiencing due to your long hours at the laptop. It's great that you're proactively trying different setups to find what works best for you. Here are some suggestions based on my research and experience:

1. **Monitor Position**: Ensure that the top of your monitor is at or slightly below eye level, about an arm's length away from you. This helps reduce strain on your neck and eyes. An external monitor can definitely help with this.

2. **Desk Height**: If you're using a standing desk, make sure it's set at the correct height. Your elbows should be at a 90-degree angle when typing, and your wrists should be straight.

3. **Chair**: Invest in an ergonomic chair that provides good support to your lower back. Look for adjustable lumbar support and seat height, so you can customize it to your needs. Also, make sure your feet are flat on the floor or on a footrest.

4. **Keyboard and Mouse**: Consider getting an ergonomic keyboard and mouse to reduce strain on your wrists. A split keyboard or an ergonomic mouse that supports a natural hand position can make a big difference.

5. **Breaks and Posture**: Remember to take regular breaks to stretch and move around. Set a timer if needed to remind yourself. Also, pay attention to your posture. Sit up straight with your shoulders relaxed, and avoid slouching.

6. **Anti-Fatigue Mat**: If you're using a standing desk, consider using an anti-fatigue mat to reduce pressure on your feet and lower body.

7. **Quality vs. Price**: While it's true that good gear can be expensive, think of it as an investment in your health. Quality equipment will last longer and provide better support in the long run compared to cheaper alternatives.

Everyone's body is different, so it may take some trial and error to find the perfect setup that works for you. Don't hesitate to consult with a healthcare professional or ergonomics specialist for personalized advice. Take care of yourself, and I hope you find a setup that helps alleviate your discomfort.
