It has become more common for companies to bring work in-house after relying on freelancers for a while. They hire a full-time person to do what several freelancers were doing, and suddenly those freelancers lose a reliable source of income. This can feel like being phased out even when your work was good. Some say the answer is to never depend too much on one client, but that is harder than it sounds when one client pays most of your bills. Have you been through this, and how did you adjust?

I think this happens a lot when companies grow and want more control. Instead of fighting it, it helps to position yourself for the early stage work they still need. Many companies bring freelancers in first before hiring full time, so being good at setup, strategy, or launching projects can keep you in demand.
