Choosing between local keywords and broad keywords depends on the type of product and audience. Local keywords are searches that include a place, like "best phone shop in Lagos", while broad keywords are general searches like "best budget phone". Local keywords may have less competition and can rank faster, while broad keywords can bring more traffic but take more time to rank. Some people combine both in one website to balance traffic and ranking time. This approach looks reasonable from a long term view. What do others think about this approach?
 
In my opinion, combining local and broad keywords is a smart long-term approach because it balances reach and relevance. Broad keywords help build overall visibility and attract a larger audience, while local keywords bring in more targeted users who are often closer to taking action. Relying only on broad terms can make it hard to compete, and focusing only on local ones can limit growth. Using both allows a website to grow steadily while still capturing high-intent traffic. The key is to structure content properly so each keyword type serves a clear purpose instead of competing with each other.
 
I feel it depends on the offer and competition level. Local keywords can work well if the affiliate product or service has location value, like finance, repairs, travel, food delivery, or local software support. They are often easier to rank for because competition may be lower.
