Ask Should I remove or keep blog comments active?

Blog comments are the section where readers can write their thoughts under an article. Some people remove comments because of spam, which means unwanted messages or fake links. Others keep comments because they help create discussion and make the blog look active. Comments can also help SEO because new text is added to the page over time. I think comments are useful if they are controlled and spam is removed often. What is the better choice for a growing blog when managing content and reader discussion online?

If you like chatting with readers, getting feedback, or seeing what people think, go for it. But yeah, they can also bring spam, trolls, or off-topic stuff, which means extra work. If you don't mind moderating a bit, comments can add a nice touch. If you just want your blog clean and simple, turning them off is fine too. Or, you can do a middle ground with moderated comments

You don't need to be removing your audience's comments. That's their opinions about you. You need to make use that you are keeping it real as much as you can. However, you may decide comments that seem unwanted and spammy. And mag be the one that they are abusing each other

It's better to keep blog comments active if you can manage them well. Comments can make your site feel alive and show real engagement. They can also bring extra ideas and questions from readers. The only issue is spam, so using moderation or filters is important to keep things clean.

Make sure you take your time to replying comments as well, especially the ones that really call your for attention. Whenever there is engagement in contents, there is a tendency that such a content can draw more traffic and even converts more than the one without any comments at all.

A growing blog should keep comments enabled as long as there is some form of moderation. Genuine comments can make articles more useful because readers often ask questions or add information that others may find helpful. An active comment section also shows that people are engaging with the content, which can encourage new visitors to join the discussion.

My choice would be to keep comments open but manage them carefully. A blog that allows discussion can build a stronger relationship with readers over time. The problem starts when spam takes over and the comment section becomes filled with unrelated links. Using spam filters and reviewing comments regularly can help keep the conversation valuable without creating too much extra work.

Keeping comments open on a growing blog makes sense if you are ready to check them regularly. The problem is not comments themselves, it is what happens when nobody is watching. Spam builds up fast and it starts to look bad for the whole site. So the real question is whether you have time to manage it.

Comments helped one of my older blogs rank better over time. Readers were adding questions and answers under posts without me doing anything. That extra text on the page kept the content feeling fresh. I didn't plan it that way but it worked out.

Some blogs remove comments and just send readers to social media to discuss. That can work but you lose control of the conversation completely. At least when comments are on your own blog, you can see what people are saying and respond when it matters.

The spam argument is real but most platforms have tools that handle it automatically now. You don't have to approve every comment manually. Setting a filter once and checking weekly is enough for most small blogs. It is not as much work as people make it sound.

Nobody talks about how comments can tell you what your readers actually want. When the same question keeps coming up under different posts, that is a signal. You can write a whole new post based on that. Removing comments means losing that kind of feedback completely.

There is also the trust side of it. A blog with zero comments can feel abandoned to a new visitor, even if the writing is good. Seeing other people respond under a post tells you that real humans read this and found it worth reacting to. That matters more than people admit.
