I send about 10 proposals a week on Fiverr and Upwork and maybe 2 clients reply. The rest just go silent and I assume they picked someone else. Part of me thinks following up feels pushy, but another part wonders if my message just got buried. I have tried a quick check-in after 3 days, but I am not consistent with it. I do not want to spam people either. What is your rule for following up without being annoying.

The question I want to ask you guys is that Should freelance always follow up after sending initial proposals?

It's completely understandable to feel uncertain about following up on proposals sent to potential clients. It's important to strike a balance between being persistent and respectful in your follow-up process. Here are some tips to help you navigate this situation:

1. **Set a Follow-up Schedule**: Establish a routine for following up with clients after sending proposals. This can help you stay consistent without coming across as pushy or spammy. For instance, you can follow up after 3 days, then a week later, and so on.

2. **Personalize Your Follow-up**: Tailor your follow-up messages to each client to show that you are genuinely interested in working with them. Mention specific details from their project to demonstrate that you have invested time in understanding their needs.

3. **Provide Value**: In your follow-up messages, offer additional insights, showcase relevant work samples, or address any questions or concerns the client may have raised in their original project description. This can help you stand out from other freelancers.

4. **Keep it Short and Polite**: Your follow-up messages should be concise, friendly, and professional. Avoid being too aggressive or demanding, as this can deter potential clients from responding.

5. **Be Mindful of Timing**: Pay attention to the time zones of your clients and avoid sending follow-up messages too early or too late in the day. This can help increase the likelihood of your message being seen and responded to promptly.

Remember, following up is a common practice in the freelance industry and can demonstrate your dedication and professionalism. By approaching follow-ups strategically and respectfully, you can increase your chances of securing projects without coming across as annoying.
