Is it weird to check in with old freelance clients who ghosted me?

Hello BMFers,
I will make this straight to the point as much as I can. There is this client of mine that has been loyal to me. He always did all his tasks with me. Not until recently, he stopped. Thing I sent him a message to know the reason why he stopped. He didn't give time the answer that I really want. That's how I stopped bugging him. However, these days that I don't have more clients, is it proper for me to send message to him first?
