Ask Is it common for freelancers to switch niches after the first year of working in one area?

A lot of freelancers pick a niche when they are just starting out because they have heard it is the smart thing to do, but after a year or more of working in that space, some of them start questioning if it was the right choice. The reasons for switching can be different for everyone, from the niche not paying well enough, to the work feeling repetitive, to simply discovering something else they are better at and enjoy more. Switching is not a failure, it is often just part of figuring out where you really belong in the freelancing world. How many of you have changed your niche after starting out and did the switch end up being a good decision for your career?
