This is something a lot of people debate. Skill matters a lot because without it you will not know how to reach your audience, write good copy, or track what is working. But niche also plays a big role because some markets are easier to enter and grow in than others. A skilled marketer in a crowded niche will struggle more than a moderately skilled one in a niche with less competition. Both things matter and work together.
