How many days is normal before requesting for your balance from your clients?

There are some clients that will not want to pay on time. They will always delay. But truth be told, some are genuine in their delay. They don't really have the money not that they don't want to pay. That is why it is better if the clients start asking or exercising some little patience to know if the delay is genuine or not. There is a need to remind the clients first before taking a step of asking. How many do you think is normal?
