Ask How do you keep track of all the different versions of a project when a client keeps requesting changes?

Managing multiple versions of the same project can get confusing fast, especially when a client keeps requesting small changes here and there. After a while, you lose track of which file is the most recent one, and things start to fall through the cracks. I have seen freelancers send clients an older version by mistake and it caused real problems. There should be a better way to stay organized without spending too much time on it. How do you personally handle this?
