Ask How do you deal with a merchant who lowers their commission rate without telling you?

This happens more often than people talk about. A merchant is the company or person whose products you are promoting, and they sometimes reduce how much they pay affiliates without sending any warning. When you notice it, the first thing to do is check your earnings report and confirm the change is real. Then reach out to them directly and ask about it. If they have no good reason and the new rate makes the partnership not worth your time, you can simply find another program that pays better. Has this happened to you before?

Just check your agreement and your recent payouts to make sure it actually changed and it's not just a mistake or timing issue. After that, reach out to them in a simple, direct way and ask what's going on. Keep it chill but clear, like you noticed the change and want to understand it. Sometimes it's an error, sometimes they're trying to adjust things quietly. If it's real, try to negotiate and see if you can get back to the original rate or at least something fair. Also, make sure you're not depending too much on one merchant, because stuff like this happens.

A sudden commission cut without notice is a good reason to reassess the partnership. The first step is to contact the merchant for clarification and review the program terms. If the change significantly affects profitability and there's no transparent explanation, it may be smarter to shift focus toward merchants that communicate openly and value long-term affiliates.

I'd first pause and check the numbers before reacting. Sometimes merchants quietly change rates because of season changes, lower margins, or new terms, but not telling affiliates can damage trust. If the drop hurts earnings too much, I'd reach out politely and ask for clarity.
