Platform fees are something a lot of new freelancers underestimate when they first start out. On Upwork, for example, the fee used to be as high as 20 percent for the first earnings with a client, which takes a real bite out of your pay. When you add taxes on top of that, your actual take-home can be much lower than what the client is paying. Some freelancers build the fees into their rates, while others absorb the cost and hope the relationship grows. How have platform fees shaped the way you set your prices?
