I'm new to freelancing and struggling with pricing. I want to charge a fair rate, but I'm afraid of scaring away potential clients. I don't want to undervalue my work, but I also don't want to lose opportunities.

Should I start low and increase later? Or should I charge what I think I'm worth from the beginning? Also, how do I explain my rates without sounding too expensive?

I'd love to hear from those with experience. How do you set your freelance rates without driving clients away?
 
Presenting your rates with confidence makes a huge difference because clients can smell desperation and uncertainty, which makes them think your prices are negotiable or that maybe you are not worth what you are asking. When you state your rate clearly without apologizing or immediately offering discounts, it signals that you know your value and have enough work that you do not need to beg for every project.
 
Breaking down what clients actually get for your rate helps justify the price way better than just throwing out a number and hoping they accept it without understanding what goes into your work. When you explain that your rate includes research, multiple revision rounds, project management, and years of experience.
