Ask How can I raise my conversion percentage with pop-ups?

I'm currently managing the channel for a client of mine who has two different websites. Overall, it is going well as I managed to increase his email marketing revenue by more than 200%. The problem I have comes with pop up conversion rates

On one website, all pop up versions (regular pop up for desktop & mobile + exit intent desktop & mobile) have a conversion rate of only about 0.9%. The incentive is a 10% discount.

On his other website, the conversion rate is absolutely shocking , only 0.2% for all four versions. The incentive, layout are all the same as with the first one. We're asking only for an email, no other info such as name or phone phone numbers.

I plan to start testing different copy, perhaps even design, as I already did a bit of tweaking when it comes to trigger times and those increased the conversion rate for about 0.2%.

Based on what I've read on Reddit and Medium, timing is important, but so is context. For example, showing a pop-up after a user has spent a certain amount of time on a product page, or scrolled halfway, often works better than a standard exit-intent. You could also personalize messages slightly if possible, like mentioning a category the visitor is looking at. Copy that creates urgency, adds clarity, or promises immediate benefit seems to improve results the most. Even testing different button texts like "Claim 10% Off Now" instead of "Submit" can make a measurable difference.

One way to boost conversion rates is to make the pop-up more appealing visually and in wording. Try using bright, contrasting colors for the call-to-action button and keep the message short and clear. Adding urgency like "Offer ends today" or "Limited spots available" can push people to act quickly. You could also test different incentives like free shipping, a small freebie, or a larger discount. Sometimes even small tweaks in design and text can make a noticeable difference.

To raise your conversion rates, I'd suggest focusing on two main areas: value proposition and user experience. For the incentive, 10% might not feel like enough to some users. Try testing something like free shipping or a tiered discount instead (e.g., "Save 15% on orders over $50"). On the user experience side, experiment with the timing of the pop-ups—maybe trigger them after a user scrolls a certain percentage or spends more time on the page. Also, make sure the pop-up design feels modern and non-intrusive. A/B testing these elements will help you find what works best.
