Most people today care more about whether the content actually helps them than about who is posting it. Someone scrolling through a feed is not usually thinking about the person behind the post. They are thinking about whether the post answers a question, teaches them something, or solves a problem they have. That said, once a person finds an account they trust and enjoy, they do start paying attention to who is posting. But at the start, usefulness almost always wins over name recognition.

But here's the catch: if that post is fluff, we bounce fast. No one has patience for useless hot air. We give a famous influencer 3 seconds of grace; a random stranger gets 1.5. So it's a two-step dance. Credibility gets you in the door, but utility keeps you in the room. We care about the source because it shortcuts trust. But if the content doesn't deliver, we don't care if it's God himself posting.

I think people care about both, but useful content usually comes first. If a post solves a problem, answers a question, or teaches something valuable, many people will pay attention even if they have never heard of the creator before. Over time, consistent value helps build trust and makes people remember who is posting.

From my perspective, the person posting becomes more important after trust has been established. A well-known creator can attract attention faster because their audience already expects quality content. However, if the content is not useful, that attention often fades quickly. Useful information is what keeps people coming back and engaging regularly.

Today, attention is earned more by relevance than by reputation. People might stop scrolling because of who posted, but they stay, engage, and share because the content solves a problem, teaches something, entertains, or feels relatable. Strong creators still matter, yet useful content increasingly outweighs status in determining what succeeds.
