A friend of mind told me a scenario of him checking some backlinks from SEMrush. SEMrush listed some websites for him but those websites didn't have any traffic for a while, then it was around three months ago to that time. He guessed may be those websites were unfortunately hit by Google updates.

He then asked me if he could still use the websites for backlinks. I told him yes. It is possible to get traffic in as much those backlinks are relevant to the niche.

You are right. If the backlinks are quality. The website can still give the website the best that they want. Just make sure you are using the same niche that the former websites are making use before. Apart from that, make sure you are consistent on the website for you to revive the website back to normal.

Yes. There can still still be backlinks from a website that has quality backlinks. It doesn't matter if the website doesn't generate more traffic so far you are using backlinks that are of high-quality. However, just like the poster above me said, you need to be consistent on such a website.

Backlinks from sites with no traffic can still help your rankings, but the benefit is smaller than most SEO guides claim. Google looks at the authority of the linking site, not how many visitors it gets. A well-established site with good backlinks pointing to it passes authority even if nobody reads it anymore.

The real question is why that site has good backlinks but no traffic. Maybe it used to be popular and still has old links, but the content got outdated and people stopped visiting. Or maybe it ranks for nothing because the owner stopped updating it. Either way, links from dead sites do less for you than links from active ones.

High-quality backlinks without traffic might mean the site has authority but ranks poorly for search terms. It could have great domain metrics because other authoritative sites linked to it years ago, but if it does not show up in search results, nobody finds it.

Some sites look impressive on paper but do nothing in practice. They have metrics that make SEO tools rate them highly, but those metrics are old or manipulated. The site might have bought links in the past to inflate its authority score. A backlink from there does not hurt you, but it is not worth chasing either.

Traffic and backlink quality are not always connected. A niche site covering a super specific topic might have amazing backlinks from industry authorities but only get 50 visitors a month because the audience is tiny. A link from that site can still boost your rankings if it is relevant to your content.

Getting backlinks from sites without traffic is better than having no backlinks at all, but it should not be your main strategy. If these are the only links you can get, take them. They add some value. But if you have options, prioritize sites that have both authority and active audiences.
