Being self-employed refers to a situation where an individual sees himself as both the employer of labour and himself. There are different advantages that come with this. In fact, some of the advantages include freedom of being alone and not under anybody.

There are some instances where being self-employed would come with some dignity in the society. With all these, do you think there is any disadvantage of being self-employed?

Being self-employed is awesome in some ways but it's not all fun. Money can be up and down, especially when you're just starting out. You also don't get perks like health insurance, paid vacation, or retirement plans. Plus, you're the one doing everything which can get really stressful. It can also feel lonely without coworkers around. And honestly, you've gotta stay super disciplined, or you might either slack off or work way too much

Interestingly, one hidden drawback of being self-employed is how easily independence turns into isolation. When you're your own boss, there's no one to share the small wins or the heavy decisions with, and that silence can slowly dull your motivation. The freedom you once craved can start to feel like a weight every plan, risk, and deadline rests entirely on your shoulders, and even success can feel strangely lonely when there's no team to celebrate it with.

Some months are great, others are tight. No sick days or paid vacations, and you have to handle all the boring stuff like taxes and marketing yourself. It can get lonely too, since there's no office banter. Plus, it's hard to ever really "switch off" because work is always on your mind. So yeah, being self-employed is cool for freedom, but it takes a lot of planning, patience, and self-discipline.
