Content quality alone does not determine how fast a newsletter grows. A lot depends on where the newsletter is being promoted and how easy it is for new people to find it. A newsletter with average content but strong promotion through social media, partnerships, or referrals will grow much faster than a great newsletter that nobody knows exists. Subject lines also matter a lot because they decide whether someone opens the email at all. People will not read what they do not open. So in your opinion, does promotion matter more than content when it comes to growing a newsletter?
 
In my opinion, promotion matters more in the early stage because even great content won't grow if nobody sees it. But over time, content becomes just as important because it determines whether people stay, open future emails, and refer others. So promotion brings the first audience, while content keeps and multiplies it both are needed, but they play different roles in growth.
 
Really, good content alone does not always make a newsletter grow fast. Distribution matters a lot. Some newsletters grow quickly because they already have traffic from social media, communities, SEO, or partnerships pushing subscribers in every day. I've seen average newsletters grow faster than excellent ones simply because they were promoted better and had stronger calls-to-action or referral systems.
 
Newsletters rarely grow fast because of content quality alone growth is usually driven by distribution, positioning, and audience fit. A newsletter with average content but a strong referral system, clear niche, consistent promotion, and compelling value proposition can outperform a better-written newsletter that lacks visibility. In many cases, discoverability and shareability matter just as much as the content itself.
