A client will come with a request, acknowledge that the work takes skill and time, and then suggest that being featured or mentioned somewhere is enough compensation. They usually frame it as an opportunity, but exposure does not pay rent or cover the hours spent. It also tends to come from people who would never accept that same arrangement in their own job.
