As your list grows, the mix of readers changes. Some people join because they are excited, while others join out of curiosity and then lose interest later. Not everyone checks their inbox the same way, so open rates shift even if your content stays the same. When you send one message to a large group with different needs, it won't hit everyone the same way. Some may open everything, while others barely notice your updates. This makes the numbers look lower even though nothing serious is wrong. Breaking your list into smaller groups can make the message feel more relevant again. What do you think makes people stop opening emails after some time?

Bigger lists usually mean less targeted subscribers. When the list was small, everyone on it genuinely wanted what was being sent. As it grows, more people join for random reasons like freebies or curiosity, not because they care about the content. Those people rarely open anything.

When a large chunk of the list never opens anything, Gmail and others start thinking the emails are unwanted. They begin filtering more aggressively, sending messages to spam or promotions tab. So even the people who would open don't see the email in their main inbox anymore. The inactive subscribers poison the well for everyone else.

Early subscribers were excited and opened everything. Now they got what they needed, moved on, or just grew tired of emails in general. But they don't unsubscribe, they just ignore. As the list ages and grows, the percentage of these dead subscribers increases.

Growth tactics sometimes bring the wrong people. Buying lists, using clickbait signup forms, or offering prizes that attract freebie seekers fills the list with bodies, not actual interested humans. These people never planned to engage, they just wanted the signup bonus.

If you are getting more audience, but your opening rate is low. It means you are targeting the wrong people. It is always better to know how to target the right person before you start making your article. If not, you may be losing potential customers for your campaigns.
