I'm updating my freelance business phone setup and I want the voicemail to sound professional but not stiff. Right now mine is too casual and I think it might be costing me clients.

I want to know say in your greeting that makes people trust you. I feel like I should include my name business name and expected callback time or keep it short and simple

I would love to hear what works for you and what sounds unprofessional, I will be looking forward to your response in the comments.

Updating your voicemail greeting to strike the right balance between professionalism and approachability is a great idea for your freelance business. Here are some suggestions on what to say in your voicemail to make it sound professional without being too stiff:

1. **Greet Callers Warmly**: Start your voicemail greeting with a warm and friendly greeting, such as "Hello, you've reached [Your Name] at [Your Business Name]."

2. **Include Key Information**: Make sure to include important information such as your name, business name, and a brief message indicating that you are unable to answer the call at that moment. For example, "I'm sorry I can't take your call right now, but please leave your name, number, and a brief message, and I'll get back to you as soon as possible."

3. **Expected Callback Time**: While it's not always necessary to provide an expected callback time, you can mention it if you believe it will set expectations and reassure clients. For instance, you could say, "I strive to return calls within 24 hours, so please expect a response from me soon."

4. **Keep It Short and Sweet**: Aim to keep your voicemail greeting concise and to the point. Avoid unnecessary information or lengthy messages that may turn away potential clients. A simple and clear message is often more effective.

Some examples of unprofessional voicemail greetings that you may want to avoid include:

- Casual or overly informal language that could give the impression of not taking your business seriously.
- Rambling or unclear messages that may confuse callers and deter them from leaving a message.
- Background noise or distractions that make it difficult for callers to hear and understand your voicemail.

By following these tips and crafting a professional yet personable voicemail greeting, you can create a positive first impression for potential clients and help build trust in your freelance business.
