Most keyword lists don't perform equally, and usually only a small group of keywords end up bringing real traffic. That's why marketers don't judge success by how many keywords they target, but by which ones actually start ranking and driving visitors.
 
From what I have seen, only a small part of a keyword list usually brings most of the traffic. Many keywords may never rank well or may have very low search volume. Sometimes just a few strong keywords end up carrying the majority of clicks and visitors while the rest barely move at all.
