Guys you just need to help me out on this one. It was this client who I enrolled few months ago and we managed to complete the project after doing the necessary things. One thing I discover is that the client was asking me to sign a document of completion which seems to be strange and new to me

The question I want to ask you guys is that What legal rights do freelancers keep after project completion? I will be looking forward to your response in the comment section thanks in advance.

As a freelancer, you have certain legal rights even after completing a project for a client. Here are some key points to keep in mind:

1. **Intellectual Property Rights**: Depending on the terms of your agreement with the client, you may retain the intellectual property rights to the work you have created. This includes copyright, trademarks, and any other intellectual property rights that may apply.

2. **Confidentiality**: You have the right to expect that any confidential information shared during the project remains confidential even after the project is completed. Clients should not disclose your confidential information without your consent.

3. **Payment**: You have the right to be paid for the work you have completed according to the terms of your agreement with the client. Make sure that payment terms are clearly outlined in your contract to avoid any disputes.

4. **Portfolio Rights**: As the creator of the work, you generally have the right to include the project in your portfolio to showcase your skills and experience to potential clients. However, some clients may request that you sign a non-disclosure agreement that restricts how you can display the work in your portfolio.

5. **Legal Liability**: You should not be held legally responsible for any issues that arise from the work you have completed unless it is due to negligence on your part. Clients should not hold you liable for any additional work or changes that were not part of the original agreement.

If the client is asking you to sign a "document of completion," make sure to review it carefully before signing. It's important to understand what rights you may be giving up by signing the document. If you have any concerns or questions, consider seeking advice from a legal professional to ensure that your rights are protected.
