Google Search Console is a free tool from that shows how a website appears in search results. The simplest way to find new keywords is to check the Performance report. This report shows the words people typed before clicking a site. Some of these words may not be used clearly in the content. When those hidden words appear often, they can become ideas for new articles or sections. This method is simple because it uses real search data. How often should website owners review this report?

Website owners should ideally check the Google Search Console performance report at least once a week, especially if they are actively publishing content. This helps them quickly spot new keyword opportunities, changes in rankings, or pages that are losing traffic. For smaller or slower sites, checking once every two weeks is also fine, but weekly review keeps you more responsive and helps you turn real search data into fresh content ideas faster.

The Performance report is the one place I always go back to. Not because someone told me to, but because it shows what real people typed. Not what I guessed they would type. That difference alone has changed how I write content more than any paid tool ever did.

Honestly the question should be less about how often and more about what you do after you check it. Some people look at the data every week and still don't change anything. Frequency without action is just a habit that feels productive but isn't.

Search Console is free and most people treat it like a bonus tool instead of a main one. That never made sense to me. You're getting direct information about what brought someone to your site. That's not a small thing.

One thing nobody mentions is that the keywords showing up in Search Console are already ranking somewhere, even if low. So you are not starting from zero with them. A little extra focus on those pages can move them faster than writing something completely new.

My concern with this method is that it only shows searches where your site already showed up somehow. So you can't use it to find topics you have never touched. It's a tool for improving what exists, not for discovering new territory.

Monthly review sounds right for most people. But new sites should check more often because the data shifts faster early on. Once your traffic pattern is stable the changes from week to week stop being useful to track so closely.

The part I find strange is that Google gives you this data for free but sells you ads to target the same searches. Makes you think about what they're not showing you in the free version and what's being filtered before it reaches your screen.

I think becoming an author is much easier today than it was years ago because there are many self-publishing options available. The difference is that writing the book is only one part of the process, while marketing it is often the bigger challenge. A great book can still struggle if people do not know it exists.

Checking the Performance report weekly is a good habit for most website owners. It helps uncover new search terms, monitor visitor trends, and find content opportunities early. Smaller sites may only need a monthly review, but regular checks make it easier to stay visible in search results.

One easy way is to open the Performance section in Google Search Console and look at the search queries already bringing visitors to the site. Many people are surprised to find keywords they never planned for. Those terms can become ideas for new articles or updates to existing content.

A simple habit is checking keywords that get impressions but not many clicks. This usually means Google is already showing the page for those searches, but the content may need improvement. Creating a new post around those terms or expanding the current page can help bring more traffic.
