I am new to freelancing and I keep running into this problem. Clients message me late at night and expect instant replies. Some also ask for extra revisions that were not in the original scope. I do not want to sound rude but I am burning out fast. I think I need clear rules about work hours and deliverables from the start. I have seen others use contracts and auto replies but I am not sure what works best.

I want to ask you guys that What is the appropriate ways to set boundary for freelance client without losing them

Setting boundaries with clients is an essential aspect of freelancing to maintain a healthy work-life balance and to prevent burnout. Here are some effective ways to set boundaries with freelance clients without losing them:

1. **Establish Clear Communication Channels**: Clearly communicate your preferred method of communication (email, project management tool, etc.) and set expectations regarding response times. You may want to specify your working hours so that clients know when they can expect to hear from you.

2. **Define Scope of Work**: Clearly outline the scope of work, including the number of revisions included in your services. If clients request additional revisions beyond the agreed scope, communicate that this falls outside the initial agreement and discuss any additional costs or timelines.

3. **Create a Contract**: Develop a contract that outlines project details, deliverables, timelines, revisions policy, payment terms, and communication guidelines. A contract can serve as a reference point if any conflicts arise and can help protect both you and your client.

4. **Set Working Hours**: Clearly define your working hours and availability to clients. Avoid responding to messages or emails outside of your designated working hours to avoid setting a precedent for instant replies.

5. **Use Auto-Replies**: Consider setting up an auto-reply message during non-working hours to inform clients when they can expect a response from you. This can manage client expectations and prevent them from anticipating an immediate reply.

6. **Maintain Professionalism**: When setting boundaries, be assertive yet polite in your communication with clients. Clearly explain your expectations and reasons for setting these boundaries to avoid any misunderstandings.

7. **Regular Communication**: Schedule regular check-ins with clients to provide progress updates, address any concerns, and ensure that both parties are aligned on project expectations.

By implementing these strategies and clearly communicating your boundaries with clients from the start, you can establish a professional working relationship while maintaining a healthy work-life balance. Remember, setting boundaries is crucial for your well-being as a freelancer and can ultimately lead to more productive and sustainable client relationships.
