Ask What is a gentle way to ask users to turn on app notifications?

When asking users to turn on notifications, it is better to be polite and clear about the benefit they will get. Instead of forcing the option, a small message can explain why notifications matter, such as helping them stay updated on discounts or reminders. A friendly message like, "Would you like to get alerts about new offers and updates?" sounds more welcoming. Adding a "Not now" button gives them control, which makes people more likely to agree later. Timing also matters; it is better to ask after they have used the app a bit and found it useful. What kind of notification messages do you think encourage people to say yes?

Don't ask for notifications the first time someone opens your app. That's too early and people will just say no because they don't even know if they like your app yet. Wait until they have used it a few times and actually see the value. Then explain why notifications will help them, like reminding them about updates or special offers.

The problem is most apps just throw a pop up asking for notification permission without explaining anything. It feels pushy. Instead, show a screen first that tells people what kind of notifications you will send and how often. Let them know they can change settings anytime. When people feel like they have control, they're less worried about being spammed with random alerts all day.

If someone just completed something useful in your app, that's a good moment to ask. Like after they finish setting up their profile or after they get their first result. They're in a positive mood and more open to saying yes. Asking at random times when they're in the middle of doing something just annoys them and makes them reject it immediately.

Some apps give you an option to choose what notifications you want instead of just turning everything on or off. That's smarter because people might not want every type of alert but they're okay with certain ones. Let them pick things like order updates or messages but skip promotional stuff if they want.

If someone says no the first time, don't keep asking every single time they open the app. That's really annoying and makes people hate your app. Maybe ask once more after a week or two, but if they refuse again, just leave it alone. You can always put a reminder in settings where they can turn it on themselves if they change their mind later.
