Though, this may be a rare case as I have not really heard about any affliate complaining about this before. But let assume the worst happens, and the link refuse to work. What will happen?

I think an affiliate like that need to consult the support to complain. But before then, check whether you copy the right code and ensure you put the code where it is meant to be.
