Ask What commission structure works best for physical product affiliates?

When picking a commission structure for promoting physical products as an affiliate, it's important to think about what motivates you and aligns with the product's price. A flat commission, like $10 per sale, is simple and works well for low-cost items since you know exactly what you'll earn. For pricier products, a percentage-based commission, say 5-10%, can be more rewarding because it scales with the product's value. Some programs offer tiered commissions, where you earn more as you make more sales, which can push you to promote harder. Hybrid models, combining a flat fee with a percentage, are also common and balance predictability with potential for higher earnings. Consider the product's demand and how much effort you'll put into promotion. Testing different programs helps you find what pays best for your work. What are your thoughts on this?

I think percentage-based commissions are better, especially for expensive products. If the product costs a lot, even 5% can be a good reward. But for cheap items, a flat fee makes more sense. It gives you a set amount every time, which feels more steady. I don't mind trying both, but I like to know exactly how much effort I need to put in to reach my goals. It also depends on how often people buy that kind of product.

For physical products, I prefer programs that offer percentage-based commissions rather than flat fees. The percentages might seem small at first, like 3-8%, but they scale better when people buy expensive items. Amazon's structure works well because you get paid on everything in the customer's cart, not just what you linked to. Fixed dollar amounts can be limiting if someone only buys cheap stuff, but percentages grow with the order value.

Recurring commission structures are rare for physical products but amazing when you can find them. Things like subscription boxes or auto-delivery services where people reorder regularly can give you ongoing income from one referral. Even if the initial commission is lower, getting paid every month when someone reorders adds up fast. These programs are usually worth prioritizing over one-time purchase commissions.

I believe a flat commission rate might be simpler for everyone. If it's clear from the start how much an affiliate will earn, it could make things easier. But then again, some affiliates might prefer getting paid more when they sell higher-priced items. It's a tricky balance! I guess it depends on the product and the audience. Maybe testing different structures could help find what works best. I'm curious about what others have experienced. Has anyone tried different methods.

For physical products, a percentage-based commission structure usually works best. Since product prices can change, paying affiliates a fixed percentage of each sale keeps things fair and scalable. It also motivates affiliates to promote higher-value products because their earnings increase with the product price.
