Should your designs follow the trends or you focus on your brands?

While designing, there is a need to ensure that you are either choosing to follow the trends or you just choose to do it in your own way. Nothing bad in either of the two. You only need to ensure that you do it well. Following trends will surely attract more users and clients to your brand but it won't last just as brand will last. What do you think of this?
