Ask Should I pay influencers per post or by the results they bring?

Choosing how to pay influencers depends on your goal. Paying per post is simple because you know exactly what you will spend. It works well when you just want more awareness about your brand. Paying by results means the influencer earns money only when there are actions, such as sales, sign-ups, or clicks. That method can save money if the results are low, but it might not motivate all influencers since some prefer fixed pay. You can also mix both methods by offering a small fee plus a bonus for good performance. This balance keeps them creative while still pushing for better results. Which of these payment styles do you think works best for small businesses starting out?

Paying per post is way easier. You agree on a price, they post, done. It's great if you just want more people to see your brand and you don't feel like tracking every click or sale. Paying based on results is more "you eat what you kill." You only pay if they actually bring in clicks or sales, which is awesome for your budget. The catch? Not every influencer is into that, especially bigger ones. Real talk: a mix usually works best. Give them some money upfront, then throw in bonuses for good results.

For small businesses just starting out, I think a mixed model works best. Paying only per post can feel risky if you're tight on budget and unsure about returns, but paying only for results can turn good influencers away especially if you don't yet have strong brand recognition to help conversions. A small fixed fee plus performance bonuses (like commission on sales or extra pay for hitting targets) keeps costs manageable while still motivating real effort. It also feels fair, which helps build long-term partnerships instead of one-off promotions.

I would say mixed approach works best for small businesses. Paying a small fixed amount gives the influencer confidence that their effort will be rewarded, while a performance bonus encourages them to create content that gets people to take action. It can be a good balance between managing costs and getting results.
