Ask Should I avoid keywords where big brands dominate the search results?

Big brands often rank high because they have strong websites and many backlinks, which means other sites link to them. Competing directly with them can be difficult, especially for new sites. Instead of avoiding completely, it may be better to look for smaller related keywords that they are not focusing on. These are often more specific and easier to rank for. This approach can still bring steady traffic over time. Is targeting smaller keywords a smarter way to grow in affiliate marketing?

Competing with huge companies is very hard because they have a lot of money for ads and links. Most people will click on a name they already know. It is better to look for words that these big sites do not care about so you can rank higher.

Many people trust famous brands more when they want to buy something expensive. If you are just providing information, you have a better chance of ranking. It is hard to beat them for shopping terms, but for advice and tips, a small blog can still do very well now.

It is a waste of time trying to fight sites that have been around for twenty years. They have thousands of links pointing to them. You should find keywords where the top results are weak or from random social media posts. That is where you can actually make money.

Sometimes you can use the big brands to your advantage. Read what they missed and add that to your own article. If people see that your page has more useful details than the famous site, they might spend more time reading your content. That will make your site grow fast.

Not every keyword with big brands is a lost cause. Some of those pages rank because of domain authority, not because they actually answer the question well. If you write something more detailed and focused, you can still get traffic, especially from people who want a real answer.

Another angle to consider is user intent. Even if a big brand dominates a broad keyword, smaller, specific keywords often capture more qualified traffic people who are closer to making a purchase or looking for detailed comparisons. By creating content that answers these precise needs, you not only rank more easily but also increase the likelihood of conversions, which is the real goal in affiliate marketing.

Honestly speaking, I would say it's not always smart to completely avoid those keywords, but going straight into them as a beginner can be very hard. Big brands already have strong authority, so ranking against them takes time, effort, and a lot of content.
