Clients now post small quick tasks instead of steady ongoing work, which makes it harder for freelancers to plan their income properly. Some people think this change helps clients save money, while others feel it hurts freelancers who prefer stability. Upwork doesn't ban long term work but the platform definitely pushes quick hires. The feed is full of one off jobs and clients often test with a small gig first. Algorithms reward new proposals and fast wins. If you want retainers you have to build trust and ask for ongoing work after that first project.
