Toptal markets itself as a network for the top three percent of freelancers, and the screening process reflects that expectation clearly. Most of what you read about successful applicants points to people with several years of experience and a strong technical foundation. That said, some mid-level developers have shared that they passed by preparing thoroughly and knowing their weak areas well before applying.
