Ask Is redirecting your domain on Ombi to a public IP address a security concern?

Hey y'all - I'm new to Ombi, and hope I'm in the right place. I'm trying to set it up so that it can be accessed from the outside world. I have my own dot com domain, created ombi.domain.com, and set it to redirect to my PublicIPort, which works. I've heard this method is a security risk.

I downloaded NGIX and have it running (but that's about it), from what I understand, I need to set up a few things on my Bluehost webhosting / domain, open some ports, and configure it through NGIX?

I'm really lost as to what needs to be done next. Are there any walkthroughs for people who have their own domain.com?

Redirecting a domain straight to a public IP is generally not recommended because it can make your server vulnerable to attacks. The better approach is to use NGIX as a reverse proxy. That way, your domain handles incoming traffic, terminates HTTPS, and forwards requests safely to Ombi. You will need to open only necessary ports on your router and configure NGIX with SSL.
